Valley Stompers
Jeremy Huggett formed THE DART VALLEY STOMPERS in July 2005 with the intention
of playing lively, exciting music in the New Orleans and Traditional styles
of jazz. The six musicians, quickly gelled into an efficient unit and established
a reputation in their native South Devon.
JEREMY HUGGETT, founder and leader of the band, is renowned for his
masterly playing of his instruments, his arranging and composing skills
and his vocal renditions. He's been playing music from an early age having
learnt flute and piano as a child adding saxes, clarinet and vocals in his
early twenties.
GRAHAM TREVARTON playing either the cornet or trumpet provides a
strong instumental lead as well as vocals. He started on cornet at an early
age and was featured as a soloist in brass bands. He developed a love of
Jazz, influenced by the sounds of the early 'Paul Whiteman Orchestra' and
Bix Beiderbeck.
RON MILFORD is a trombonist and vocalist of vast experience having
played with many bands at clubs and festivals throughout the U.K. during
the past forty years. He was with 'The Teign Valley Stompers' when they
won TV's 'Opportunity Knocks' beating Cannon and Ball.
JOHN WHITLOCK is a musician with a wealth of experience having learnt
piano, banjo and guitar as a youngster. After playing in rock bands in the
1960s he joined the Army and played in dance bands. Since leaving the Army
he's played with many bands at clubs and festivals throughout the UK. He
was also an 'Opportunity Knocks' winner with 'The Teign Valley Stompers'.
TONY MANN is a versatile and experienced musician who has been playing
double bass, tuba and trombone since his teens. He's worked extensively
in the UK and abroad playing a variety of music.
RON BERRY is another early starter who played drums in Skiffle and
Jazz bands. He led his own band playing opposite bands led by Acker Bilk
and Ken Colyer. Throughout his career he has played in many different bands
throughout the UK. His expertise as a New Orleans and Traditional style
drummer ensures that he is in constant demand.
