Ingrid
Laubrock Quintet

This quintet is led by BBC Jazz Award nominee Ingrid Laubrock and includes Mercury-prize nominee Sebastian Rochford on drums as well as improvising cellist Ben Davis, pianist Barry Green and double bassist Larry Bortley. The stellar line-up, described as 'heavenly' by Chris May of 'All About Jazz,' has achieved an almost mystical degree of interaction and interplay; and while much emphasis is on improvisation, the musicians never loose track of Ingrid's compositions. Their music can be both lyrical and hard hitting, swinging and grooving or exploring space and texture. It is fresh and exciting and this special combination of musicians' joy of play is communicated in every performance.
Originally from Germany Ingrid has been actively involved in music from the age of 4. She has performed with Kenny Wheeler, Norma Winstone, David Liebman, Billy Cobham, Jean Toussaint, Stan Sulzman, and many more. As part of the F-ire Collective she won the BBC Jazz Award for Innovation in 2004 and was nominated for the BBC Jazz Award for 'Rising Star' in 2005 and for a Fellowship in Jazz Composition by the Arts Foundation in 2006.
