KILLER
SHRIMP
DAMON BROWN AND ED JONES
"Killer Shrimp"
is a new group born out of the long-standing partnership of trumpeter Damon
Brown (Benny Golson, Steve Grossman, Dave Liebman...) and saxophonist Ed Jones
(Incognito, Great Spirit, Us3 ...) Both players have featured in each others
bands and in clubs and festivals in the UK and abroad. The music - composed
specially for this tour and 1st CD release "Sincerely Whatever" (33
records) is very much rooted in the jazz tradition but touches on different
grooves and textures.
The band features Ben Hazelton on double bass (currently with Tony Kofis Monk
Quartet and a winner of the Worshipfull Company of Musicians Award) and Troy
Miller (currently playing with Roy Ayers, Jean Tousant and Soweto Kinch)
"Damon Brown plays with a warmth and fluidity that allows him to find
considerable variations from the norm, therefore making his work worthy of attention.
His thoughtful and attentive playing always demonstrates his ability to find
greater emotional depths. A gifted composer" Virgin Encyclopaedia of
Jazz
"Ed Jones may have hit his highest profile through his work with bands
Us3 and Incognito, but he's an improviser to his fingertips, a player of forceful
imagination and one of the UK's most distinctive saxophonists. Capable of an
ethereal lyricism as well as thunderous hard bop" John Fordham, The
Guardian
