Louise
Parker
Louise came to singing only six years ago, discovering her
previously hidden talent for both vocals and entertaining after studying
for a National Diploma in Performing Arts. Last year she added performances
at Glastonbury Festival’s Jazz Lounge, the Hayne Barton Jazz Festival and
the prestigious Pizza Express Dean Street jazz venue in London to her portfolio
as well as a great Club Night in Teignmouth.
At Glastonbury she performed alongside jazz names like Dennis Rollins, Acoustic
Ladyland and Electric Doctor M. At the Pizza Express venue she was backed
by the Craig Milverton Trio, including Craig Milverton (on piano), Nicola
Muresu (on bass) and John Blease (on drums). London Evening Standard critic,
Jack Massarik said of her performance at Pizza Express, “There’s no substitute
for good time and tone, and Lulu displayed both. Tender or wild, her voice
never lost its warmth and her phrasing had an in-built propulsion rarely
heard from others.” She continues to go from strength to strength, developing
a unique style which ranges from poignant ballads to full gutsy blues and
gospel, which have audiences begging for more.
Jazz classics are treated to her easy rhythmical style and inspirational
scatting, with Louise playing with the band rather than in front of it.
Influences include Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and her
father’s extensive blue-note jazz collection. Louise currently performs
with her band at Jazz venues across the Westcountry.
