Ellingtonia are the only band in the Westcountry to specialise
in the music of Duke Ellington.
Formed in 2004, the band has already acquired a reputation for powerful
live performances covering a wide range of Ellington's extraordinary
output, but centering on the late 20s to early 40s.
Ian Wellens' arrangements, specially created for this outfit, are
derived from the original records to convey the authentic flavour
of the Ellington sound, and with an eight piece line up the band
has access to all the essential instrumental colours: soaring alto
sax, dark baritone, growling trumpet and warm trombone, all backed
by a full rhythm section. With Jade Jefferies' spellbinding voice
the picture is complete.
Expect to hear favourites like I'm Beginning to See the Light, Perdio
and East St Louis Toodle-oo alongside lesser known gems such as
Junior Hop and The Jeep is Jumpin'.
