have an association that goes back thirty years to when they both played with BBC Scottish Radio Orchestra, and the Tommy Sampson Big Band. Gordon's career took him from being principal trombone in the Scottish Radio Orchestra to filling the same chair in the BBC Big Band where he has been for the last 26 years.
Apart from being the most respected lead trombonist in Europe, Gordon is also recognised as one of the best soloists around and he is also currently Professor of Trombone at the Royal Marines School of Music. Bruce's career has spanned the last forty eight years taking him from being a winner on Hughie Green's "Opportunity Knocks" in the mid 1960's through a commercial career mixed with jazz, to the past twenty years where it has been virtually nothing but jazz.
The quintet he co-led with Alan Barnes has been a staple of the British jazz Scene since the early nineties, and continues to work to this day. A regular nominee and winner of the trumpet prize in the British Jazz Awards, Bruce continues to play his own mix of styles, influenced by Dizzy, Roy Eldridge and Clark Terry.
