Ken Rennison Quartet. Ken Rennison, John Shillito, John Whitlock and Bob Jarvis have been making music together, in different groups and guises, for nearly 15 years - and, separately, for a good many more!

An accomplished musical and entertaining foursome, they achieve a remarkably compelling swing without the aid of a drummer. All "local" musicians; Ken and John Whitlock are Teignmouth residents, Bob Jarvis hails from Exeter and John Shillito lives in Torquay. They have built an eclectic repertoire of material from the swing era of the 1930's and 40's that includes standards, ballads and blues featured by small groups of the era including Coleman Hawkins, Teddy Wilson and Red Allen.

Ken's tenor playing is evocative of Hawkins and he also plays alto and soprano saxes with warmth and style. You will enjoy how he and John Shillito (trumpet, flugal horn and vocals) complement each other and exchange the lead in ensembles; and both men are exciting and emotional soloists. John Whitlock (guitar) and Bob Jarvis (bass guitar) have a similar rhythmic understanding and collaborate to provide a light but rock solid swinging platform for the two front-liners. The band is known for including many lesser known tunes from the era in its programme and is sure to leave you with a smile on your face, a song in your heart and rhythm in your feet.

Saturday 1:30pm-3:30pm - Oystercatchers
