The Spirit of Colyer was formed by Norman Thatcher (leader/trumpet) a long-standing friend and disciple of Ken Colyer and for more than ten years, the leader of the acclaimed Ken Colyer Trust Band.

Close your eyes and you can hear him conjure up the magic of Colyer at his best. Often using the derby hat mute, the ability to inspire a band in so many ways ranging from discreetly nudging along the ensemble to triumphantly leading from the front, and above all the sheer, unflinching integrity of the music.

Joining Norman are;
John Maddocks (clarinet) an exciting band leader in his own right who began his jazz career playing regularly at Ken Colyer's Club.
Tom Whittingham (trombone) an outstanding jazz musician from a younger generation.
Mike Denham (piano) an excellent pianist whose other commitments include Steve Graham's band, the Sunset Café Stompers and his own Original Rags.
Sarah Thatcher (banjo) another superb musician from a younger age group.
Derek Jones (bass) a great bass player who served a successful stint as a member of the Ken Colyer Jazzmen.
Peter Winterhart (drums) A dynamic and sensitive drummer who also plays with the Sunset Café Stompers.
John Minnion (cornet) joins the band briefly on second horn for their salute to the Crane River Jazz Band in the role of Sonny Morris!
