Sportinghouse Strings was formed by two of Tommy Burton’s rhythm section in 2001, the trio has established a big following on the British jazz scene over the years since Tommy died in 2001.

The trio consists of Thomas 'Spats' Langham who joined Tommy in 1994. His featured banjo work and vocals supporting Tommy’s multi-faceted performances were to produce a significant development in the sound and direction of ‘Sportinghouse’ music through the 90’s.

Richard Vernon provided accompaniment for Tommy from 1984 right up until their last gig together. Early radio and TV recordings, plus a full circuit of the majority of the major UK festivals and clubs enabled Richard to develop and establish his musical support and contribution to the band Martin Litton is one of a few great British pianists for whom Tommy Burton had huge regard and musical respect. Sportinghouse Strings has been created to present a musical tribute to their ‘guvnor’ as well as to perform an extended selection of music which Tommy would regularly feature from these ‘his fine lads’ for whom he had such high regard.

The trio has tremendous musicality with a presentation that’s as scintillating and entertaining as ever.
