Riffraff has been around since 1991, but in its present form since August
1996 when its new repertoire and line-up were presented at the Sion Jazz
Festival ( Switzerland). This international band’s aim is to concentrate
on less well-known masterpieces by the great composer-musicians of jazz.
The band hail from various parts of Europe including France and Switzerland.
The emphasis is on a lyrical dynamic jazz which reaches across the footlights.
This makes for lively, swinging music which is accessible to the general
public and at the same time intrigues the specialist fan through the originality
of the repertoire and the virtuosity of the musicians. The line-up has
been static (all but one player) since 1996 - John Aram (trombone) Maurizio
Bionda (alto & baritone), Michel Bastet (piano), Keith Feinson (double bass),
Philippe Staehli (drums) This is a factor that explains the cohesion and
intuitive understanding between the members of the group. They were very
well received at the Festival several years ago and we are very exited about
having them again as part of their UK tour.
