Roy Pellett learned clarinet at school, played in R.A.F. Military
bands and later, with semi-professional jazz bands in his native
London. 1963 he took over leadership of 'The Clyde Valley Stompers'
for their last 18 months of existence. In the mid 1960's he was
a founder member of the Max Collie Rhythm Aces until he joined Bob
Wallis in 1968. In 1969 he moved to his adopted home of Plymouth
to join Rod Mason. When Mason joined Acker Bilk in 1970, Roy formed
another band which worked exclusively on the continent for the next
decade until, fed up with 'life on the road', he returned to Plymouth.
Since then, he has combined playing locally with researching and
writing BBC Radio 2's 'Jazz Score' series (1981 - 1997) |
